Formed in 1998 after supporting Alan Stivell, Breton musician and master of the Celtic harp at Plouvorn in Brittany, France; Clann na Mara came together to explore Celtic Music in both its traditional and contemporary forms with extended compositions and arrangements with improvisation and a strong rhythmical content.

Paul Gillieron started playing jazz clarinet and tenor saxophone in Belfast with local modern jazz groups, including the Malcolm Gooding Quartet, with Jackie McGuire and Billy McAlpine, while studying Physics at Queen’s University.

In London, played in a variety of jazz, rhythm and blues, rock and fusion bands - Musica Eterna, Pasha, Graham Bond Organisation, McGuinness Flint, 25 Views of Worthing, JJ and the Flyers and The Blues Band. 

Started playing Irish music on tin whistle after hearing a Chieftains record with Hughie Flint (drummer with John Mayall and Eric Clapton) on bodhran.  Formed Chanter then Clann na Mara, (CD Roots Run Deep”), with Barry Wickens and J Eoin.

The label Twang Dynasty operates from his community arts centre “Brixton Art House” in Brixton, London, where he has designed and built recording and dance studios and rehearsal performance spaces. (www.brixtonarthouse.org).

 

Paul first came to Sete in 2006 to sail a boat. In 2011 he brought Clann na Mara to Sete and they have been playing twice a year there ever since. He now lives on the 1902 Dutch sailing barge “Vrouwe Antje” in Sete. They recorded the live CD “The Enchanted Way” in Sete in 2015.

Since then, Paul has produced CDs in Sete with Frederique Sonnet (“Sonnets”), Alfie Wade (“Alfie Wade Sings”) and the Jazz trio “Zoo Collective” playing tenor saxophone with Joan Eche – Puig (double bass) and Dano Haider (Guitar) – CD “Hotel Splendide”.

J Eoin is a singer/guitarist with considerable experience as a live performer and studio musician in both traditional and contemporary folk music. He began his professional career in Ireland during the early ‘80’s touring with  Clannad and Scullion before settling in London where he established himself as part of the thriving music scene there at the time.

​Early releases including ‘Ribbonmen’ (1991) and ‘Sean One Shoe’ (1994) defined J Eoin’s ‘Song Poetry’ style and received critical acclaim for their historical relevance and the quality of the song writing.

 

J Eoin returned to the studio in 2005 to write and produce the album ‘Exiles’, a collection of songs relating to his personal experiences of relocation, which was showcased and released at the 12 Bar Club in London’s West End. Following an extended period working internationally on the festival and club circuit both as a solo performer and working as an accompanist J Eoin returned to the studio in 2013 to record ‘Acrobat' with producer Gerry Diver (Lisa Knapp – Wild and Undaunted). The album was listed as the number one choice for playlists on Czech Republic National Radio during December 2014.

 

J Eoin has continued to record and release new material including 2018’s  ‘Sunshowers’ which featured a collection of solo songs recorded ‘Live in the Rua Room’ in Ghent, Belgium during June 2017. A concert album, ‘Toogenblik – J Eoin In Concert’, recorded at the famous Toogenblik Folk Club in Brussels in June 2016, was remastered and released through Natural5Four records in July 2019. This intimate recording showcases J Eoin’s natural abilities as a solo performer and captures the essence of the man whose vision began at an open door in Ireland and has continued to break on the city shores and the far away oceans across the world today.

Barry Wickens studied violin at Trinity College of Music, London, then began a playing career in rock, bluegrass, and Irish music. Starting his career in music playing clubs and pubs of London teaming up with Steve Knightley who’d later form “Show of Hands”, loved by the UK folk scene. Barry went on to play violin and guitar with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, (the longest serving musician with the band spanning about 35 years). 

On becoming further established he became sought after for many recording sessions. Among many he played and recorded with was Irish band, Lick the Tins, John Martyn, The River Detectives, Thrashing Doves and Jackie McAuley’s “Poormouth”.

Until 1996 he recorded and toured the world in the band,“Immaculate Fools” on Sony Music/Epic USA labels. The band, frequent guests at WOMAD festivals, toured with some of the worlds greatest artistes. After co-producing their 5th and 6th studio album he left to continue to compose and produce music for film, television and theatre forming the music production company, Hydraphonic in late 1997. 

Still Barry records and tours with Steve Harley in a variety of line-ups and with Harley’s rock band Cockney Rebel and in 2018 released his first solo album.

Le label Productions Twang Dynasty opère depuis son centre de création artistique, le « Brixton Art House » à Brixton, Londres ; c’est là qu’il conçoit et réalise des studios de danse et d’enregistrement ainsi que des salles de spectacle.

Paul passe une partie de l’année à Sète, profitant du port de plaisance pour faire de la voile et recherchant l’inspiration musicale dans la région de l’Hérault.

J Eoin - Cela fait maintenant 20 ans que le chanteur et guitariste J. Eoin distille son talent sur scène ou en studio en tant qu'artiste de musique folk contemporaine et traditionnelle. Originaire de la ville de Limerick, il débuta sa carrière professionnelle en Irlande au début des années 80, en donnant des concerts en tant qu'artiste solo aux côtés de Clannad et Scullion avant de poser ses valises à Londres où, il se fit connaître pour sa contribution à l'éclatante scène folk irlandaise de l'époque. Parmi ses premières œuvres figurent notamment « Ribbonmen » (1991) et « Sean One Shoe » (1994) desquels émane la sensibilité poétique de l'artiste dont le travail a été salué unanimement par la critique pour sa pertinence historique et la qualité de ses paroles.

Après plusieurs années passées à sillonner les routes du monde entier, de festival en festival et de club en club à la fois en tant qu'artiste solo et en tant qu'accompagnateur lors de différentes manifestations folk et mettant son talent au service de divers styles musicaux, J. Eoin retourna en studio pour écrire et produire,  afin de donner naissance à l'album « Exiles » en 2005, un recueil de chansons personnelles abordant le thème du déracinement, présenté et sorti la même année au 12 Bar Club dans le West End, à Londres. Il sera le maître de cérémonie à The Gloss Club, une soirée musicale acoustique mensuelle très prisée, à Londres. Depuis sa création en 2007, The Gloss Club a attiré un grand nombre de musiciens internationaux comme des grand noms de la musique irlandaise comme Eleanor McEvoy, Mick Hanley, Sonny Condell et, plus récemment, Tir na Nog qui donna son unique représentation à Londres en juin 2010.

Barry Wickens - étudie le violon au Trinity College of Music, à Londres avant de démarrer une carrière de musicien de rock, bluegrass, jazz et de musique celtique.  Il débute sa carrière en jouant dans des clubs et pubs londoniens avant d’accompagner au violon et à la guitare Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel (le plus ancien musicien accompagnateur du groupe, près de 19 ans).  Sa réputation établie, on le réclame pour de nombreuses sessions d’enregistrement.  Parmi tous les groupes avec lesquels il a joué ou enregistré, citons Irish band, Lick The Tins, John Martyn, The River Detectives, Thrashing Doves et Jackie McAuley’s Poormouth.

Jusqu’en 1996 il enregistre et participe à une tournée mondiale de concerts avec le groupe Immaculate Fools sous le label Sony Music/Epic USA.  Le groupe est souvent invité lors du festival de musique WOMAD et accompagne en tournée des artistes parmi les plus grands et plus célèbres du monde. Après avoir quitté Immaculate Fools, il continue à composer et à produire des bandes-son pour le cinéma, la télévision et le théâtre, créant la société de production musicale Hydraphonic fin 1997.
